Buying Used Books
If you are someone that likes to have a physical copy of a book but doesn’t want to pay full price Thriftbooks.com is a great place to get a deal. Now most of these books are pre loved and the website will rate used books from very good to acceptable. Even the new books are often cheaper compared to Barnes & Noble. Using the book ‘Flawless’ by Elsie Silver as an example from B&N it is $17.99 and new from thrift books it is $14.29 for a new copy and as low as $8.89 for an acceptable copy.

The rules were simple: keep his hands off his agent’s daughter and stay out of trouble.
But now he’s stuck with her. There’s only one bed. And well, rules are made to be broken.
Local thrift stores are usually even cheaper than Thriftbooks.com but this has its own drawbacks. The selection is limited and usually outdated. The local thrift will also required some more dedication to look through the shelves that may or may not be organized.
Library
If you don’t need to have your own personal copy, borrowing from a local library has some perks. Many libraries offer membership cards for little to no money and can have great selections. You can get your fix of book shopping without the big expense you get at the book store. You may have to wait for a copy of the book you are looking for but that’s how you know it will be a good book. Depending on the library they may offer other services as well like printing and event space.
Audio Books
If you are someone that considers listening to audiobooks as good as reading them you have a few options for streaming. All the platforms range in price, amount of listening hours, and selection so it is important to pick one based on how and what you like. Some of the most common are Audible, Google Audiobooks, Spotify and Libby. I personally use Libby which uses your library card or cards and it is free for me. The biggest draw back about using Libby as it does act as a normal library and you may have to wait for a book if it is already checked out. You can add multiple library cards to increased to amount of books you have access to.
| Cost | Amount of listening | |
| Audible | -$7.95 for plus, $14.95 for premium plus | -unlimited within select catalog, more titles included with premium as well as 1 credit per month to get additional book |
| Google Audiobooks | -price per book | -unlimited after purchasing each book |
| Spotify | -$9.99 | -15 hours per month, an additional 10 hours for $12.99 |
| Libby | -cost of a library card | -unlimited |
